Jack and Peggy Nunn are the original founders
of Great American Land & Cattle Co.
The present Great American is actually six separate
companies. Each of the four core restaurants is an individually
owned company. Sadly, Peggy passed away in 2006 but Jack continues
to operate the Trans Mountain store. The others are operated largely
by relatives of Jack & Peggy. The Alabama store is run by
Peggy’s daughter Tamara, The Yarbrough store is run by her
nephew David Wayne. Of course our own Mesa Hills store (originally
opened around the corner on Sunland Park) is owned by Cris &
Theresa Green. While not techinically a relative of the Nunns,
Cris grew up in their restaurants, and they were like a second
set of parents to him. Cris started with them in 1978 as a busboy,
learned the business from the ground up, and continued working
for them even several years after purchasing this location. Suffice
it to say, we are all greatly indebted to and appreciative of
the Nunns for their tutelage and generocity. These core restaurants
still cooperate together on many levels, including Gift Certificates
which are redeemable at any of these locations, and also advertising
together and swapping recipies. The remaining store in Vinton
(Anthony) was purchases by a group from Juarez Mexico in 2004.
Since that time they have opened a location on George Deiter in
the far east side. The Seasoning Division is a seperate company
owned by Jack, from which all of the restaurants buy the seasonings
and BBQ sauce. They are now produced for us locally by Claudes
Sauces.
